In 1997 when then WHF president Otto Schweisgut visited Tudor Oaks Farm, he proclaimed Rivella to be “one of the best in the World” as a yearling. She has certainly lived up to this billing! Rivella's mother Riva, an Andrit daughter, was the winner of the 3-year-old Elite Mare Show at the Fohlenhof, Ebbs in 1995. Rivella's full brother, Nottingham, placed second in the 2001 Tirolian stallion inspection and was sold to Germany.
At age 2, Rivella began her show career as National Junior Champion Mare at the AHR National Show. At age 4, she was crowned National Grand Champion Mare, a title that she went on to win a total of three times: 2000, 2001 and 2003. She was the winner of the first-ever Haflinger Breed Class at Dressage at Devon in 1999. Inspected and classified to WHA Standards in 2000, Rivella scored 81.2 points, earning her the coveted Gold Ribbon. Rivella is schooling First Level and showing at Training Level in dressage. She was the winner of the Introductory Level Dressage at the National Show in 1999 and 2000. She also placed against Warmbloods in both of her under saddle classes at Dressage at Devon 2000: Suitable to become a Dressage Horse (7 th place), and the Materiale Class for 3 & 4 year old Mares (6 th place). She is a brilliant, balanced mover with a wonderful work ethic.
The second foal, Riviera TOF, also by Aristocrat TOF was everything we could hope for from this combination and more. Refined yet incredibly sturdy and balanced, the length of neck, laid back shoulder and well-defined wither this mare possesses are ideal for a performance type, and she's all power from behind. Her expressive eye is set just right on her beautiful dry head. Her extensive show record speaks for itself; she is unequalled in achievement as a young horse in North America. She has been owned and shown by Steve and Sue Hannah of Boulder, Ontario since she was weaned.
Here's the proof in the pudding:
In 2002 Rivella presented us with her first stud colt, her third foal by Aristocrat. “Approved by Rivella TOF” was purchased in-utero by Lisa Heck of Muskego, Wisconsin. In keeping with the tradition established by his two older sisters, “Jack” (as he is fondly nicknamed) took top honors as a weanling at the AHR National Show and the Futurity, including winning all the money in the SIP class. He came back as a yearling in 2003 to win the AHR National Futurity Yearling Stallion Class, and is well on his way to upholding that tradition, as he develops into an outstanding young stallion.
2003 brought a second stud colt, this one by Walzertakt. As with all great mares, the stallion simply complimented the great genes she provided. “Walzing River TOF” is a beautiful, leggy, refined and exceptional young stallion, purchased as a weanling by Johanna Doty of Green Lake, Wisconsin. Look for this colt to develop just as his famous siblings have.
The 2004 foal now expected will be by Standard of Excellence TOF, and if a filly, is pre-sold to Scott and Ann Taylor of Wildhaven Farm, Bloomfield, Missouri. Fillies are spoken for through 2005 and 2006, but stud colts may be available at our discretion. If you are interested in getting in line for one of Rivella's foals, please contact the TOF office.
